Settlement Overview

The Cosequin Dog Supplement Settlement resolves a class action lawsuit against Nutramax Laboratories, Inc. and Nutramax Laboratories Veterinary Sciences, Inc., the companies that manufacture and market Cosequin® canine joint supplements.

The lawsuit, Lytle v. Nutramax Laboratories, Inc., alleged that Nutramax misrepresented the benefits and effectiveness of certain Cosequin dog supplements in product packaging and marketing materials. Plaintiffs claimed the products were advertised as supporting joint health, mobility, and cartilage function in dogs despite insufficient scientific evidence supporting those claims. Nutramax denies all allegations and wrongdoing but agreed to settle to avoid the cost and uncertainty of continued litigation.

The settlement covers several Cosequin-branded dog supplements sold for household use, including chewable tablets and soft chews. Covered products include:

• Cosequin® DS Maximum Strength Chewable Tablets

• Cosequin® DS Maximum Strength Plus MSM Chewable Tablets

• Cosequin® Maximum Strength Plus MSM Chewable Tablets

• Cosequin® with MSM Chewable Tablets

• Cosequin® DS Maximum Strength Plus MSM Soft Chews

• Cosequin® Maximum Strength Plus MSM Soft Chews

• Cosequin® with MSM Soft Chews

The settlement provides an $11.5 million fund for eligible consumers. Class members who submit a valid claim can receive up to $25 per unit purchased, with a maximum payment of $150 per household. If the total value of approved claims exceeds the available settlement funds after fees and expenses, payments may be reduced on a pro-rata basis.

In addition to monetary relief, the settlement also requires the defendants to remove certain marketing statements from future packaging related to mobility and joint health claims for the covered products.

You may qualify if:

• You lived in California at the time of purchase

• You purchased eligible Cosequin dog supplements for personal household use

• The purchase occurred between May 3, 2016 and May 6, 2022

How Payouts Work

Eligible claimants may receive up to $25 per unit purchased, up to six units (maximum $150 per household). Payments will be distributed from the settlement fund after deductions for attorney fees, service awards, and administration costs. If the number of claims exceeds the remaining fund, payments will be reduced proportionally.
