Amazon Prime $2.5 Billion FTC Settlement — Claim Up to $51 Per Person
The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) reached a historic $2.5 billion settlement with Amazon over allegations that the company violated the Restore Online Shoppers' Confidence Act (ROSCA) through deceptive practices in its Prime membership enrollment and cancellation processes.
What Did Amazon Do?
The FTC alleged that Amazon:
- Failed to clearly disclose the material terms of Prime membership before collecting billing information
- Did not obtain express informed consent before charging consumers for Prime subscriptions
- Made it unreasonably difficult to cancel Prime memberships through a deliberately confusing cancellation process (nicknamed "Project Iliad" internally)
Amazon has not admitted wrongdoing but agreed to the $2.5 billion settlement to resolve the claims.

- Up to $51 per eligible consumer — representing a refund of Amazon Prime subscription fees
